Baked Apples With Nuts, Honey And Cinnamon

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 medium apples (eaters or cookers)
  • 50g ground almonds or hazelnuts
  • 50g roughly chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans, or your choice)
  • 50g softened butter
  • 4 tablespoons Wildflower honey (plus extra for drizzling)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (plus extra for sprinkling)
  • 4 knobs of butter

HOW TO MAKE BAKED APPLES

  • Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F ).
  • Wash the apples thoroughly and then use an apple corer or a sharp knife to carefully core them. Stuff a bit of the core into the bottom to save the filling from falling out. Peel the top portion of the apples slightly to allow the flavors to penetrate.
  • In a bowl, combine the ground almonds or hazelnuts, roughly chopped nuts, softened butter, honey, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Mix well until you have a filling mixture that’s well mixed and sticking together.
  • Fill each cored apple with the nut and honey mixture, gently pressing it down to ensure the filling is packed evenly.
  • Place a knob of butter on top of each filled apple and sprinkle with a pinch of cinnamon. Arrange the stuffed apples in a baking dish.
  • Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes. Every 10 minutes, baste the apples with the melted butter and juices from the dish. This will help keep the apples moist and flavorful.
  • After the apples have baked for about 20-25 minutes and are starting to soften, drizzle a spoonful of honey over the top of each apple.
  • Place the apples back in the oven and continue baking for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the apples are tender and soft. The baking time may vary depending on the size and variety of the apples.
  • Once the apples are soft and caramelized, remove them from the oven. Serve them immediately while still warm. To enhance the experience, place each baked apple in a serving dish, top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, sprinkle with toasted nuts, and drizzle with the honey caramel sauce from the baking dish.
