Homemade Hot Honey with Dried Chillies

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup honey
  • 1-2 teaspoons red pepper flakes (depending on how spicy you want it)
  • Pinch of salt

OPTIONAL EXTRAS

  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • or 1 tablespoon Lime juice
  • 1-2 Cloves of garlic, crushed

HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE HOT HONEY

In a small saucepan, combine honey, red pepper flakes, and a pinch of salt. Add apple cider vinegar, garlic or lime juice if using.

Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the honey becomes thin and runny, about 5 minutes.

Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the hot honey cool for a few minutes.

Strain the hot honey through a fine-mesh strainer to remove the red pepper flakes. If you prefer a spicier hot honey, you can skip this step, just make sure to remove the garlic.

Pour the hot honey into a jar or bottle and let it cool completely before storing in the refrigerator.

HELPFUL TIPS

The longer you let the hot honey sit, the hotter it will become as the pepper flakes infuse into the honey. You can adjust the amount of red pepper flakes according to your desired level of spiciness.

Use up leftover bits of granulated honey for this recipe. As the honey is heated, the granules will melt and blend beautifully with the chillies.
