Hanna’s Bees crowned Best Small Business in Cork

I am buzzing with excitement to announce that Hanna’s Bees has been named the Best Small Business in Cork! The award was given at the inaugural Best in Cork Awards organised by Cork County Council. The award was presented by The Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Frank O’Flynn and Chief Executive of Cork County Council Valerie O’Sullivan at a ceremony in Vertigo at Cork County Hall on the 13th of February 2024. Hanna’s Bees was shortlisted Finalist in two categories: Best Green Innovation (won by Ballymaloe House) and Best Small Business (for business under 10 employees).

This award is a testament to our commitment to sustainability and to healthy and sound beekeeping practices. Only by doing this can we produce the highest quality honey and beeswax products for our customers. All the team at Hanna’s Bees is deeply honoured to receive this recognition from our beloved Cork community.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Cork County Council for organising the Best in Cork Awards. Your dedication to celebrating, showcasing and supporting local businesses truly makes Cork a special place to live and work. I arrived in Ireland over twenty years ago with nothing more than a rucksack and a sewing machine. I consider myself extremely fortuitous to have ended up in Cork of all places. It has a great vibrancy and sense of community that is hard to beat!

Hanna Bäckmo is an award-winning beekeeper, entrepreneur, hobby gardener and internationally published writer. Originally from a small island in Sweden, she now lives in East Cork with her son, two dogs, a flock of rescue chickens and lots of bees.
